Top 5 tallest buddha statues in the world

the spring temple buddha

The Spring Temple Buddha (chinese: 中原大佛 Zhōngyuán dàfú) is the world’s largest statue, and has been listed in the Guinness World Records. Depicting the Vairocana Buddha, it stands 128 metres (420 feet) tall from the base of the lotus pedestal. This in turn stands on two structures, the “Diamond Seat” and the “Sumeru Seat” – which, if included, brings the total height to a staggering 208 metres.

the laykyun setkyar

Standing tall at 116 metres, and on a 13.5 metre throne, and painted bright yellow, Laykyun Setkyar is not exactly a subtle presence. Not subtle, and not exactly forthcoming with its details – the amount of literature published, as far as I can see, on this colossus of Burma can be condensed into one page of A4, as my notes currently testify. Construction began in 1996 and it was officially opened on February 21st 2008 – this is a very recent tribute to Buddha.

The Ushiku Daibutsu

Ushiku Daibutsu, located south east of the city of Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture, is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest Buddhist statue in the world at 120m or equivalent to a 38-story building. The height of the giant, bronze statue includes the 10m high base and 10m high lotus platform.

The Ushiku Daibutsu weighs an incredible 4000 tons and was built in 1993 to commemorate the birth of Shinran (1173-1263), the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Japanese Buddhism, with its HQ at the Honganji temples in Kyoto.

the guanyin of the south sea of sanya

The Nanshan Cultural Park highlights China’s diverse social customs. The key feature of the zone is the three sided statue of Guan Yin Buddha, Buddhist Temples, spectacular landscape and sea views. The zone has been designated a Priority Project of China Tourism Development and earmarked for further development. Recently completed, the bronze statue of Guan Yin Buddha stands 108 metres tall on a man made island in the sea just off Nanshan. It’s larger than the statue of liberty.

the sculptures of the emperors yan and huang

The statues of the Emperors Yan and Huang are the fifth tallest statues in the world at 106 meters high, with the eye three meters wide and the nose eight meters long. They depict two of the earliest Chinese emperors, Yan Di and Huang Di. The construction lasted 20 years and was completed in 2007.They are located in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, People’s Republic of China. According to experts, the statues commemorate politics and the economy.
